whisper/scream
I believe every quilt has a story to tell. Some scream from the mountain top, while others require you to lean in to hear their whisper. All quilts will speak to you if you are willing to listen.
One whispers in secrecy and screams to be heard.
Whispers are intimate; screams are public.
Within these quilts, you will find both.
Exhibiting my art is, in itself, an exercise in exposing my private life to the public. Documenting personal experiences, emotions, and thoughts through my quilts is centering, calming, and therapeutic. The act of making allows me to vocalize what is often difficult to put into words.
Sharing those deeply personal pieces with others, however, is an entirely different experience. It is scary. It is vulnerable. It requires me to step far beyond the boundaries of my comfort zone—to take what has been private and intimate and allow it to be seen—for the sake of human connection.
In the silence of a gallery, even the whispers scream.
